Nordy's Redeems Itself

Remember when I was complaining a while back about the lack of quality customer service I had been experiencing at Nordstrom? Well, I'm happy to report that this weekend my favorite department store redeemed itself with some EXCELLENT customer service! I was delighted to have a more than friendly and super smart sales associate help me in the lingerie department. Being a bigger busted girl, it's often difficult to find the right fit and something that is actually feminine and pretty. Luckily for me, I was blessed to be helped by a wonderful Nordstrom employee at the Walnut Creek store who knew exactly what I needed and she even offered up some names of websites to refer to for swimsuits.

Thank you dear, sweet Nordy's sales associate for renewing the faith I have in one the places that makes me happiest on Earth. (Yes, it's shameless, I know...but I fully own it!!) :)

Heavenly

Have you had one of these? OMG! They're heavenly - for real!! The Skinny Cow Heavenly Crisp candy bar = YUMM-O!
I was STARVING as I shopped for items for dinner at the grocery store yesterday, so while waiting in the check out line, I grabbed one of these little bars. I have to admit I was skeptical, because I'm not really that thrilled with Skinny Cow ice cream bars. The Heavenly Crisp candy bar is delicious, however. I got the milk chocolate one and it literally melts in your mouth. And who can beat a candy bar that has 3 grams of fiber in it and is only 110 calories? It's a nice afternoon snack with barely over 100 calories and a candy bar that will actually keep you full thanks to the fiber. LOVE IT!!

Romantic Getaway

My husband and I are planning a very special trip to the Monterey/Carmel area in October. I'm a planner by nature, so I'm starting to think about our itinerary already. Does anyone have suggestions for:
  • hotels
  • restaurants
  • things to see/do
  • a place to get a good cup of coffee
  • any misc. tips

True Colors

My grandma used to say that people will always eventually show you their "true colors." As I continue to get older and (thankfully) wiser, I see just how true that statement is. I have been reminded of this a lot in the last six months as I've been by my best friend's side as she has gone through the motions of ending a five year relationship, gaining insight about the true colors of people who were in her life - against her better judgement, losing the father figure in her life, and gaining inner strength.
So, when I came across a quote I wrote down a long time ago that talks about the measure of one's character, I thought it fitting to share. It reminds me of the hard, cold truth and lesson in life I've had to learn about people....
Via Ann Landers:

"Keep in mind that the true measure of an individual is how he treats a person who can do him absolutely no good."

Can I Get Some Customer Service Lovin?...

Because this picture pretty much depicts the way I feel the employees at Nordstrom have been taking their job duties lately. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE me some Nordstrom shopping. It's like a little slice of Heaven for me to walk into a Nordstrom department store and covet all of the lovely things to be purchased there. However, I'm HUGE on customer service, and I have NOT been impressed with my last two trips to two different local Nordstrom stores here in the Sacramento area. In fact, the first time it happened, I let the sales associate know that I didn't appreciate the fact that he flat out ignored me for at least ten minutes and then proceeded to practically rip a box set of cologne out of my hand as he asked me not to open the box. (Um, hello, what was I supposed to do? I wanted to smell the cologne before purchasing it, and there was no sample sat out amongst the other sample bottles. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and open the box so I could smell the only available bottle there was, which happened to be boxed! *It didn't have cellophane over it...I'm not that determined!) I digress...

I told the gentleman that I was less than pleased with the fact that I was being ignored even though there were two sales associates who could have helped me, and that I thought it was unusual behavior since that's not typically Nordstrom's style. I mean, hello! I pay good money for things there, and Nordstrom has a reputation for good customer service, which is why I often choose them over other department stores, so the least I expect in return is a friendly person who can help me while I'm standing there obviously not knowing what I'm doing and needing help!

Now, let me just say, that I've definitely had my fair share of jobs working in customer service, and because I've always been complimented on such skills, I take it very seriously! It's not that difficult to be polite to someone and to ask them if they need help with something. You don't even have to really smile (or fake smile for that matter) in order to do that. Even if I end up saying "no thanks", at least you made the effort, which counts for something in my book!

So, then today, I went to a different Nordstrom and was looking for tinted moisturizer at the makeup counter and was ignored again! Needless to say, I was NOT happy! What's the deal??

I don't encounter this in the clothing or shoe departments. So, what's going on at the makeup counters?? Are other people out there experiencing this as well? I'm just curious....

Girls' Night In

Ahh...it's my favorite day of the week! I love Fridays! Friday nights are usually spent hangin with my husband and my doggies snuggled in our bed watching a movie. For those of you planning on doing the same tonight (or sometime this weekend), I've suggested some of my favorite movies. Now, all of these are pretty much chick flicks, so you're probably either going to have to convince your hubby or boyfriend to be kind and watch these with you (which might take some bribing on your part and/or agreeing to do some really boring guy thing later), or you can call your girls over to keep you company while watching these!

* P.S. What are some of your favorite movies?

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S

THE PARENT TRAP

THE HOLIDAY

SECRETARIAT

THE SWEETEST THING

MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING

MILDRED PIERCE
* This is a really good movie, but be forewarned, it's a five hour miniseries. Might want to stretch this one out over the weekend!
